Conditions for Motion-Background Segmentation Using Fundamental Matrix
نویسندگان
چکیده
In common motion segmentation and estimation applications where the exact nature of objects’ motions and the camera parameters are not known a priori, the most general motion model (the fundamental matrix) is applied. Although the estimation of a fundamental matrix and its use for motion segmentation are well understood, the conditions governing the feasibility of segmentation for different types of motions are yet to be discovered. In this paper, we study the feasibility of separating motions of a 3D object from its static background using the fundamental matrix. We theoretically prove that a pure translational motion cannot be separated from its static background and the success of motion-background segmentation depends on the rotational part of the motion. An extensive set of controlled experiments using both synthetic and real images was conducted to validate the theoretical results. In addition, we quantified the conditions for successful motion-background segmentation in term of the minimum required rotation angle. These results are useful for practitioners designing motion segmentation or estimation solutions for computer vision problems. متن کاملTwo-View Segmentation of Dynamic Scenes from the Multibody Fundamental Matrix
We present a geometric approach to 3D motion segmentation of multiple moving objects seen in two perspective views. Our approach is based on the multibody epipolar constraint and its associated multibody fundamental matrix, which are generalizations of the epipolar constraint and of the fundamental matrix to multiple moving objects. We show how to linearly solve for the multibody fundamental ma...
متن کاملMoving Object Segmentation Using Motor Signals
Moving object segmentation from an image sequence is essential for a robot to interact with its environment. Traditional vision approaches appeal to pure motion analysis on videos without exploiting the source of the background motion. We observe, however, that the background motion (from the robot’s egocentric view) has stronger correlation to the robot’s motor signals than the foreground moti...

We present a geometric approach for the analysis of dynamic scenes containing multiple rigidly moving objects seen in two perspective views. Our approach exploits the algebraic and geometric properties of the so-called multibody epipolar constraint and its associated multibody fundamental matrix, which are natural generalizations of the epipolar constraint and of the fundamental matrix to multi...
